Vaccination

Here are the basic vaccines we provide for our Shih Tzu puppies, which are essential to keep them healthy and protected:

  1. Distemper, Parvovirus, Adenovirus, and Parainfluenza (DHPP)
This combination vaccine protects against several serious and common diseases that affect puppies’ respiratory, digestive, and immune systems. Puppies receive their first DHPP shot at around 6 to 8 weeks old, followed by boosters every 3 to 4 weeks until about 16 weeks.
  2. Rabies
Rabies is a fatal disease that can affect both dogs and humans. We ensure puppies get their first rabies vaccination before going to their new homes, typically around 12 to 16 weeks of age, depending on local regulations.
  3. Deworming Treatments
Though not a vaccine, regular deworming is important to protect puppies from intestinal parasites. We perform deworming treatments multiple times during the first weeks to keep puppies healthy.

These basic vaccines are required to protect your Shih Tzu from serious illnesses and are the foundation of their early health care. We provide full vaccination records and recommend continuing booster shots with your veterinarian to keep your puppy fully protected.

Follow-Up Vaccinations and Vet Care

After your Shih Tzu puppy leaves our care, it’s important to continue the vaccination schedule recommended by your veterinarian. Puppies need a series of booster shots to build and maintain strong immunity against common diseases. Typically, boosters for the DHPP vaccine are given every 3 to 4 weeks until the puppy reaches about 16 weeks of age. The rabies vaccine is usually given once between 12 and 16 weeks, followed by regular boosters based on local laws and vet advice.

Regular veterinary check-ups are essential not only for vaccinations but also to monitor your puppy’s overall health and development. Your vet can also recommend additional vaccines based on your puppy’s lifestyle and local risks, such as Bordetella or Leptospirosis, if needed. Keeping up with vet visits ensures that your Shih Tzu stays healthy, protected, and happy throughout their life. We encourage new owners to maintain open communication with their veterinarian and reach out to us anytime if they have questions about health care or vaccine schedules.
